Gilded Wooden Logs
These old wooden logs were destined for the fire, but with just a little Gold Leaf they’ve turned in to something precious and worthy of their place on Annie Sloan’s “Christmas Shelfie” 2016.
These gilded wooden logs were created using masking tape, loose brass leaf, Gold Size and Stencil Brush. Annie created them for her Christmas shelf, but you could have them in your home at any time of the year.
You will need:
• Metal Leaf (Annie has used Brass, but you could use Aluminium or Copper for a different look.)
• Gold Size
• Stencil Brush
• Masking Tape
• Dry wooden logs
Using masking tape to create a crisp, clean line tape off a section of wood and apply Gold Size with a Stencil Brush. The Gold Size looks pearlescent in colour when first applied and will become clear after 5-10 minutes – this is when you should apply the leaf. Place the leaf on to the wood, gently pushing it in to the crevices using a dry brush and brushing away any excess.
Carefully peel off the masking tape and then apply a Clear Chalk Paint Wax to stop the metal from tarnishing.
