Decorating with Florence Chalk Paint

Florence is a wonderfully vibrant blue-green Chalk Paint™ that brings an instant sense of energy to any piece. Sitting on the blue side of the green spectrum, the colour originates from copper green minerals and malachite. It’s a confident, characterful colour reminiscent of the painted doors and shutters of the Mediterranean.

“Strong and vivid, Florence is at its most striking when used boldly!” – Annie Sloan

Used on furniture, Florence creates an eye-catching statement while still feeling timeless. Its depth means it works just as well on a single accent piece as it does on larger items like cupboards, sideboards or kitchen islands. Pair it with warm woods and natural textures for a relaxed, rustic look, or contrast it with crisp whites and dark greys for something more contemporary.

Florence also takes beautifully to decorative finishes. Light distressing reveals hints of the layers beneath and gives the colour a sun-washed, coastal feel, while a coat of Clear or Dark Chalk Paint Wax can gently brighten its fresh turquoise character or deepen it into something richer and more dramatic.

Because Florence sits between blue and green, it also creates beautiful variations when mixed with white. Adding white softens the colour into a range of lighter turquoise, aqua and aquamarine tones, each with the same fresh, coastal character but with a gentler feel.

How to use Florence with other Chalk Paints

Florence also pairs beautifully with its complementary colours. On the colour wheel, the opposite of this blue-leaning green sits within the warm orangey-red family. Colours like Primer Red, Scandinavian Pink, Antoinette and Sandalwood create a striking contrast that feels warm, lively and balanced. Rather than pairing them in equal strength, try letting Florence take the lead and introduce these warmer tones as accents for a rich, layered palette.

Its richness also works particularly well alongside black, creating a look that feels bold, elegant and slightly neoclassical in style. The contrast gives Florence a grand, architectural quality that works beautifully on statement furniture.

Whether you’re refreshing a small piece of furniture or transforming a room, Florence is a colour that brings energy, creativity and a touch of Mediterranean charm to any project.
