Painted Chair Makeover
by Hester van Overbeek
Painter in Residence Hester van Overbeek refreshed and reused her existing chair to fit with her evolving interiors.
Painter in Residence Hester Van Overbeek has a speedy solution to update a chair – without even removing the existing fabric.
The wooden frame of this chair was transformed with a coat of Pure (remember to use a base coat –we recommend Country Grey if you’re painting over a dark colour). For added interest, Hester then painted one chair leg in Greek Blue and added three stripes to the back.
Hester diluted Greek Blue to paint a wash of colour over the seat. Use a ratio of 1 part paint to 1 part water to ensure the fabric retains its texture. Once dry she used paper tape to create a geometrical pattern on the seating, then painted these sections with Greek Blue, Duck Egg Blue and Aubusson Blue. She used a coat of Clear Chalk Paint Wax on the painted wood, and applied a trim of denim ribbon around the edge of the seat with a glue gun.
