5 DIY PAINT IDEAS FOR CHILDREN’S BEDROOMS
Spaces for both rest and play, children’s bedrooms are the perfect place to experiment using colour. From inspiring their imaginations to encouraging restful sleep, there’s endless possibilities for incorporating colour creatively into little spaces.
Our range of water-based paints (and also Chalk Paint™ Wax!) are certified Toy Safe, meaning they’ve been independently tested according to strict European regulations (EN71-3) and found to contain no materials toxic to children. They’re even safe for baby furniture and cots!
Choose from richly-pigmented Annie Sloan Wall Paint, durable Annie Sloan Satin Paint for high-traffic areas, or no-prep, no fuss Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan for almost every surface! Keep scrolling for inspiration.
Firstly, Choose the Perfect Colour
Colour is always a good place to start. Napoleonic Blue is a strong, ultramarine blue. Use it to create dramatic yet calming spaces, perfect for play. For added playfulness, use alongside Scandinavian Pink Chalk Paint™ on architectural features, such as this arched recess.
Take Inspiration from Art
This Matisse-inspired children’s bedroom features the best of brights from the Chalk Paint™ palette! From cool, clean Giverny, to soft, light pink Antoinette, through Antibes Green, Arles, Emperor’s Silk, English Yellow, and accented by charcoal Graphite. Or… Use Restful Colours

Perhaps you’re looking to use more restful colours in your children’s bedroom to promote a sense of calm? In the image on the left, Joanna of @jk_joannakrol has mixed Paris Grey, Graphite, and Aubusson Blue, and applied using a Wall Paint Brush to create this textured teal effect, reminiscent of a blustery night sky!
Similarly, on the right, Joanna has used the same technique to create a magical, dreamlike effect in another children’s bedroom. Here, she used just Paris Grey and Graphite. The softness of each of these colours, plus the delicate draping, combines to create the perfect space for sleep.
Inspire Their Imagination
Though not the obvious choice for a children’s bedroom, here artist Lucy Tiffney has used Athenian Black as a dramatic background for her fairytale illustrations to sing against. From fantastical, lush botanicals, to flying rabbits, and sleeping owls. Lucy has also taken advantage of Chalk Paint™’s superb mixing qualities to create her exhaustive palette of colours. Perfect for sparking little imaginations! Read more, here!
