MATISSE INSPIRED CHRISTMAS GARLAND

Create a colourful Christmas Garland you can hang on your fireplace or use to dress your festive table using our templates

You Will Need
• 120ml pots of Chalk Paint™  in your chosen colours
• Templates
• 1 x Detail Brushes
• Cardboard – between 300-500 gsm
• Craft knife/scalpel & scissors
• Cutting mat
• Hole punch
• Small pieces of ribbon, cord or embroidery thread 2-3mm wide
• Long piece of ribbon 10mm wide for hanging

Step 1
Download and print the templates, resizing them if necessary. Using carbon paper transfer the shapes onto the cardboard.

Step 2
Carefully cut out the shapes for your garland using a craft knife or scissors. Use a cutting mat to protect your surfaces. Remember, the lighter the cardboard the easier it will be
to cut.

Step 3
Use a small hole punch to create a hole 1cm in from the edge of each shape. If you don’t have a hole punch anything with a small sharp point will work.

Step 4
Paint your decorations using your chosen Chalk Paint colours and allow them to dry. Paint one side first and allow it to dry before painting the reverse for mess-free painting.

Step 5
Cut small pieces of the thinner ribbon, cord or embroidery thread to roughly 20cm in length and thread through the hole you have made in each decoration.

Step 6
String your decorations onto the thicker length of ribbon. Tie them with a knot or use a glue dot to keep them in place. Now you’re ready to hang your garland.
TOP TIP
Measure the space where the garland will hang to work out how much ribbon and how many decorations you will need. Allow for swags and cut the ribbon to length accordingly. Hang your decorations at differing lengths for visual interest.
