Easy Halloween craft for kids: painted pots
Get the youngsters involved in spooky season with a fun Chalk Paint project

You will need:

- Mini terracotta plant pot (these are 7cm tall)
Paints:
- 120ml Chalk Paint in Athenian Black
- 120ml Chalk Paint in Rococo White
- Plus choice of colours. We used:
- 120ml Chalk Paint in Barcelona Orange, Emperor’s Silk, English Yellow and Antibes Green for the pots and assorted colours for the details
Tools:
- Bowl
- Small paint brushes
- A tool with a narrow tip (e.g. use tip of detail brushes or embossing tool)
- Pencil (optional)
- Sweets, ribbons and cellophane bags
STEP 1: Paint the pots

Pour a little Chalk Paint into a bowl, this makes it easier (and less messy) for little hands to use. If you’re doing the painting yourself, you can skip this part.
Now the fun begins! Paint each pot in a different colour. Don’t forget to cover the rim too. One coat will do the trick, then let them dry before moving on to the next step.
STEP 2: Draw on your spooky silhouettes

Time to bring your pots to life. Dip your brush into Athenian Black and mark out where you’d like your spooky shapes to go. If you prefer, you can lightly draw them on with a pencil first. Now paint on some classic Halloween silhouettes. Think ghosts, cats, bats or even a creepy spider.
STEP 3: Add the eyes

Every spooky character needs a pair of eyes, start with Rococo White and paint on tiny circles. Let them dry for a couple of minutes, then add little black eyeballs using something with a fine tip. We used an embossing tool.
STEP 4: Paint on colourful motifs

Time to make your spooky pots even more colourful. Use different Chalk Paint colours to add fun motifs. You could try stars, spots, zigzags, or any other shapes you like.
STEP 5: Finishing touches
Now for the best part, filling up your spooky pots. Wrap some sweets in cellophane, tie them up with a ribbon and pop them inside. They make the perfect Halloween surprise.Once the treats are eaten re-use the pots. Add some compost and plant microgreen seeds. In a few days, you’ll have fresh greens to enjoy in salads and sandwiches.
