Textured Papered Drawers
by Chloe Kempster
Painter in Residence Chloe Kempster used Chalk Paint® emerald hues and textured paper to create these jewel-toned drawers.
This textured-effect set of drawers has been transformed by Annie’s Painter in Residence to have a carved wood effect using just some textured paper, Chalk Paint®, and coloured Chalk Paint® Waxes.
First Chloe adhered paper to the drawer fronts using PVA glue. Once completely dry she applied a base layer of Chalk Paint® in Aubusson Blue and allowed to dry. Next she blended Antibes Green, Florence, and more Aubusson Blue to give that undeniable emerald colour.
Once she was happy with the colour Chloe used a Wax Brush to apply a thin coat of Clear Chalk Paint® Wax all over. This protects and prepares the surface for application of Dark and Black Wax, which she applied with a rag to enhance the texture of the paper by emphasizing the crevices of the pattern. Using Antibes Green as a highlighter she dry-brushed the raised surface to finish and create further contrast, thereby emphasizing the detail and adding to the carved wood effect. Finally, she used Clear Chalk Paint® Wax to seal everything in.
