MATISSE INSPIRED CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS

Turn plain Christmas stockings into Matisse inspired works of art to fill your home with colour

Step 1
We made our Christmas stockings using a simple off-white cotton fabric. Put a piece of boot-shaped cardboard inside the stocking before you start painting with your chosen Chalk Paint™ colours. This will stop colours bleeding on to the other side.

Step 2
Paint your stockings with a background design. We cut shapes out of 160gsm cardboard to create squiggle shapes. Use painters decorating tape to mask off the edge of the stocking to create a long coloured line. Roller in the colours.

Step 3
Use the stencils you have cut out to create your patterns using a small roller and your chosen Chalk Paint, making sure you change the roller head for each change of colour. Make sure the background paint is dry before painting on top of it or removing masking tape. Don’t water the paint down or it will bleed – you are painting on top of the stocking rather than dyeing it. Allow paints to dry in between colours.
