Painted Chair by Annie Sloan Painter in Residence Hester van Overbeek with Chalk Paint® in Pure, a fresh white, and blues

Painter in Residence Hester Van Overbeek has a speedy solution to update a chair – without even removing the existing fabric.

The wooden frame of this chair was transformed with a coat of Pure (remember to use a base coat –we recommend Country Grey if you’re painting over a dark colour). For added interest, Hester then painted one chair leg in Greek Blue and added three stripes to the back.

Hester diluted Greek Blue to paint a wash of colour over the seat. Use a ratio of 1 part paint to 1 part water to ensure the fabric retains its texture. Once dry she used paper tape to create a geometrical pattern on the seating, then painted these sections with Greek Blue, Duck Egg Blue and Aubusson Blue. She used a coat of Clear Chalk Paint® Wax on the painted wood, and applied a trim of denim ribbon around the edge of the seat with a glue gun.
