How long have you owned the store?
I joined the store in 2021, selling my painted furniture and vintage home accessories. In 2024 I became an Annie Sloan Stockist and in December 2025 my store partner left so I became the main owner.
Tell us about the name, what inspired it?
The store is called “Neukombiniert” which translates to “Newly Combined” which describes the purpose of the store – giving old items a new purpose sometimes combined with other products.
How did you discover Annie Sloan paints?
There was an article in a magazine about the German stockist Das Hohe Haus which showed the owner painting dining chairs. At the time I was looking for a product to do up a bedside table for my son, and the rest is history. I started to upcycle furniture to sell, which I also sold in the Neukombiniert shop.
How did stocking Annie Sloan paints change or enhance your store?
Becoming an Annie Sloan Stockist turned the shop around. I could showcase the paint as I had been using it for the last eight years for my own upcycling projects and I could pass on my experience and knowledge.
What else does the shop stock?
Apart from the Annie Sloan products, I stock a mixture of new and vintage interior decorative items, upcycled products and vintage shop letters. The shop is known in Berlin for the letters and it’s now also becoming famous for being the only Annie Sloan Stockist in Berlin.
What is the local area like, where else might people visit alongside your store?
Neukombiniert is located in an affluent suburb of Berlin with great public transport connections to the centre of town, which is only a 20-minute train ride away. There are a lot of small shops and the area has a village type atmosphere. Neukombiniert is unique for the local and surrounding areas
What workshops do you run?
I offer three types of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshops:
- Mini-Chalk Paint Workshop where the participants can either bring a small item or purchase something from the shop for example an old drawer or wooden letter and, for a small fee, they can decorate the item using Chalk Paint. This is designed to get them hooked on painting so that they then can take part in a more advanced workshop.
- Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Workshop Technique 1 – working on a board.
- Furniture Workshop, where the participants can bring a small piece of furniture and use the techniques already learned to upcycle their own piece.
What do you love most having your store?
I love being able to come to work and be creative, giving old pieces a new lease of life. I also enjoy the customer contact and being able to help others to become creative.
