dzieła Polly Coulson
A surrealist celebration of freeform line drawing by Australian Painter in Residence Polly Coulson.
This surrealist, playful piece is a celebration of freeform “one line” drawing. Inspired by none other than Pablo Picasso, Polly simplified his abstract continuous line drawings into a more achievable free form snail trail or squiggle pattern.
First, she chose Chalk Paint® in Napoleonic Blue as her base colour. This bright, rich blue is partly inspired by Yves Klein Blue and is an excellent colour to use if you want to reference Modern Art movements or simply make a statement in your home.
Polly painted her squiggle line using Chalk Paint® in Antoinette, after doing a few practice lines with a clean brush to get the feel of the movement she wanted to make. She used a Large Chalk Paint® Brush and dragged it along the furniture to make her lines, not worrying about the messiness of the edges but simply trying to get a feel of movement and playfulness. Then, once she had done that she was able to neaten up the edges using a Large Detail Brush. We strongly recommend using a similar technique so that when you’re painting your design you aren’t worried about how “messy” you are being.
Polly then added some Florence to the interior of the piece to give a joyous colour pop before protecting and finishing all over with Clear Chalk Paint® Wax.
