Painter in Residence Hester van Overbeek created this children’s wardrobe by up-cycling an old display cabinet she found in a reclamation yard.

First, she sawed off the cabinet’s legs and sanded them down. She then screwed on some taller table legs she had purchased from IKEA to make the wardrobe a useable height.

Hester painted the wardobe using Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. The outside is painted with a mx of Paris Grey and Graphite. The inside is a custom mix of English Yellow, Burgundy and Graphite which she used to create a mustard colour. The shelves are painted in Old White. The confetti pattern on the glass was printed with circular sponges, using a range of colours including Old White, Coco, Barcelona Orange, Henrietta, Arles and Aubusson Blue. She finished with a coat of Chalk Paint® Lacquer.
