How to: Hang a Banner Poster

Learn how to hang a banner poster using dowels, string, and screw-in brass eyes

The lovely thing with banner posters is that you can hang them in any room in your house without having recourse to a professional framer. You might have created your artwork using Chalk Paint™. For this particular project, we also used Annie Sloan Image Medium which is brilliant for transferring an existing image, for example from a book or magazine.

Once your banner is ready to be hung, follow these simple steps to add a dowel at the top and bottom, as well as string to suspend it.

Materials

  • Two half-round dowels
  • string
  • heavy duty double sided tape
  • screw-in brass eyes.

Step by step guide for hanging a banner poster

  1. Cut the half-round dowels so that they are both 8cm longer that the width of your banner.
  2. Take some some heavy duty double sided sticky tape (carpet tape for example) and stick it to the flat side of dowel starting 4cm in and running until 4cm from the end. Make sure that one edge of the tape runs along one edge of the dowel so that the tape only overhang on one side.
  3. Lay the dowel flat side down and run a craft knife along the edge to cut off the overhanging tape.
  4. Now peel away the backing of the tape to reveal the sticky surface on the dowel.
  5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 so that you have dowels attached to both the top and bottom of your banner.
  6. Take the brass eyes and screw them in to the top of the top dowel 1cm from the left and right edges of the banner.
  7. Tie one end of a piece of string to one of the eyes, and the other end to the other. Your banner is now ready to hang!
