Annie Sloan is to colour what Delia Smith is to cookery.
Appropriately, Sloan's new book Paint Alchemy is a step-by-step
guide for interior decorators to making and using paint.
Likening pigments to spices, she provides various recipes
to mix and cook up - from the expected 'egg yolk' tempera
to an appetising 'Beer' glaze. Her introduction to paint
includes some ingenious examples; the Ndebele people
of South Africa decorate their walls with the black
