General Information: This winter we shall be extending our range of courses from beginners to experts learning the skills of decorative painting.
The courses range from basic to advanced decorative paintwork encompassing trompe loeil, stencilling, marbling, wood graining, gilding and decoupage. There are also a series of workshops on related subjects which are scheduled throughout the year. Courses range from just 2 hours to two days starting at 10.30 and working through until 16.30. Students will be working on practice boards, serving as a portfolio which can be taken home at the end of the course. We stock a collection of blank furniture that may be purchased.
All classes are taught by a student trained in the techniques of Annie Sloan and are limited to a maximum of 8 students. We stock a complete supply of Annie Sloan paints and products including English text versions of books written by Annie. All you will need for the course is a pencil and paper for notes as all materials are included in the cost of the course. Be sure to wear suitable clothes. On full day courses a light lunch is supplied courtesy of the organizers.

Introduction Course on Decorative Paint Techniques (10.30 -16.30)
Basic decorative paint techniques. Subjects covered are project design, choice of colour and decorative techniques for walls and furniture. Work is carried out on practice boards and includes colour wash, ragging, sponging, combing etc also some aging techniques and a brief glimpse at gilding and stencilling. With the skills learned on this course you should feel confident enough to challenge your own projects in the house.

How to Paint Furniture (10.30 –16.30) This is designed as a follow on from the Introduction Course of the previous day.Both classical and contemporary techniques are studied here. Although the techniques are geared towards decorating furniture they can be equally applied to walls. How to apply decoupage and age it. Textured painting and how to age stencilling, Explore work with two tone effects to create both modern and traditional finishes. Work with Craquelure and Peeling Paint Medium to create a distressed paint finish with pigments and varnish. Finally a few ideas for combining gilding techniques with the paint techniques to create exciting effects.

Introduction to Gilding (10.30 - 16.30) Traditional and contemporary techniques with loose metal leaf, metal paints, metal powders. All products used on this course are water based. The course has its roots in the book Decorative Gilding written by Annie Sloan. Working on practice boards we learn how to apply both loose and transfer metal leaf, on a surface that looks like gesso, age with wax, use coloured tints and apply metal powders.

The Beginning of Gilding: An introduction course presenting the basic principals of gilding using loose metal leaf on practice boards and finishing with some decorative techniques and a little ageing. Price 45 euros
A Step Further: Further subjects can be covered by arrangement with your tutor.
