Course Background
Annie Sloan has been teaching courses on how to use paint and similar materials to make decorative effects for more than 25 years. She has taught mainly in Britain, in London and Oxford predominately, but also as far north as the Shetland Islands. Courses have also been held in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Madrid , New York and Toronto.
Annie's aim is to tell people about materials and their qualities, as this she feels is the key to unleashing potential and creativity in people. Once an understanding of the possibilities of materials are realised then techniques can be used together, overlaid or used side by side. As always Annie inspires, innovates and of course informs.
A lot of activity and information is packed into each course with a mixture of listening and doing. Students leave the course with samples of everything taught --usually about 10 techniques in a day. People attending these courses invariably come away feeling inspired and fully informed, ready to tackle a project.
The Location
The courses are held upstairs in Annie Sloan's shop at 117, London Road, Oxford, England.
Individual attention
No more than 6 people are taught at a time to ensure Annie can spend time with the individual. The hours for full day courses are 10.00 to 4.00 with a break of about 45 minutes.
How to get there:
The M40 Motorway goes right by Oxford. Take Junction 8 (or 8a if you are coming from the north). Keep going on this road which eventually goes into Oxford centre, but you do not need to go so far. Practical Style is on this road, in the first group of shops. Find us on the right just before the first set of traffic lights. Parking is behind the shop. To get there turn right at the traffic lights, then just past the little supermarket on the right you will find the entrance to the car park. There is parking there for 120 cars.

How to Paint Furniture - Full Day
On the full day course you will learn how to achieve the look of old Swedish, Italian and French style painted furniture.
The techniques are distressing paint, crackled paint, crackled varnish, a wonderful damask style of stencilling, decoupage, and decorative gilding
