Fabric

Annie Sloan offers you a range of French fabrics such as tickings, linens, toiles and the very special double width fabrics (280cm/108 ins). These extra wide fabrics come from the tradition of using fabrics on the wall rather than wallpaper. Today we use them on the wall but we also find them useful for making curtains and covering sofas or bedcovers as there are no seams to sew.
Ticking

Originally made for covering mattresses, these are strong woven fabrics made in many colours and variation of stripes.

Linen based

Made from flax fibres, linen is a soft yet very strong fabric

Voile

A transparent or translucent fabric to allow light in but giving some privacy

Toile de Jouy

Originally referring to town called Jouy in northern France, this now means any printed fabrics with several pastoral scenes repeated usually in one colour. It is printed on a strong 100% cotton suitable for light upholstery and curtains.
Many of the designs date from the 18th century and 19th century. In recent years old design have been taken and updated with fresh colourings but retaining the orgiginal beautifully drawn vignettes.
